experts from across the German-speaking world, learning about different approaches to using AI tools to support the creation of FMEA analyses.<\/p><p>First things first: Today\u2019s AI tools (June 2026) are already capable of remarkable feats.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4ef3d0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d4ef3d0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cMethodically \u201d is a blog series that\u2019s actually about methods.<\/p><p>One might argue that AI is really just a matter of tools.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f05d9ac elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f05d9ac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But in my view, that\u2019s not the case: When we integrate generative AI into our FMEA methodology, the tasks, priorities, processes, roles, and habits that have traditionally defined a successful workflow undergo massive changes.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f7d4efb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f7d4efb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This blog will therefore consist of three parts:<\/p><p><strong>Part 1 \u2013 Tasks in FMEA Work and Features of the Compared AI-Supported FMEA Tools<\/strong><\/p><p>Part 2:\u00a0 Completing the Tasks<\/p><p>Part 3:\u00a0 Potential Impacts<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-627a206 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"627a206\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Part 1, I will compile a list of the tasks that need to be completed when developing an FMEA.<\/p><p>And I will provide a description of the different approaches offered by the tools presented\u2014without claiming to be exhaustive regarding the solutions that already exist globally.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c93cdf6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c93cdf6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Part 2, I will analyze the seven steps of the FMEA process\u2014as outlined in the 2019 AIAG-VDA FMEA Handbook\u2014more or less in sequence, and identify how AI contributes to the FMEA process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d2b389 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0d2b389\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Part 3, I\u2019d like to venture a personal outlook on the coming years, focusing not only on today\u2019s methods and new tools but also on the \u201cif-then\u201d conditions for the successful use of AI-supported systems compared to conventional tools.<\/p><p>To that end, I\u2019d like to highlight a few \u201cchallenges\u201d that I foresee.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd14782 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd14782\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>Part 1 \u2013 Tasks in FMEA Work and Features of the Compared AI-Supported FMEA Tools<\/strong><\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f93cad elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0f93cad\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>From a methodological perspective, we can use a design FMEA to analyze system considerations, designs, the development of mechatronics, electronics, and software, as well as the development of equipment and tools.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-263fd53 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"263fd53\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A process FMEA can be used to examine planned workflows, with the focus of its applications on manufacturing processes, although topics such as logistics, customer service, or internal processes can also be analyzed in a very similar manner. The workflows in question simply need to be planned and, as far as possible, repetitive.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dbc618b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dbc618b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Both types of FMEA are worthwhile either when there is only one attempt with high public attention\u2014as is the case with many space projects\u2014or when we support the planning of products or services involving a high number of repetitions, such as automobiles, aircraft, medical devices, or industrial food products.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4b4aa4e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4b4aa4e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In all these applications, the FMEA should<\/p><ul><li>develop <strong>a shared understanding within the team<\/strong> of the task at hand, down to the finest details,<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 regarding the division of roles,<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 development deadlines,<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 functional and technical objectives,<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the boundaries of responsibilities,<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the distinction from structural elements and their objectives that have been fully developed and tested and therefore should not be reconsidered,<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the distinction from or interfaces with development content from other development partners, e.g., functional departments or suppliers,<\/p><ul><li>proactively divide these tasks functionally (structure with functions and associated requirements),<\/li><li>consider which potential deviations from these development goals could occur and are relevant,<\/li><li>clarify cause-and-effect relationships by linking the deviations in a failure network across all levels and specify the significance of the failure consequences at the upper end of the relationship chains,<\/li><li>to plan timely preventive and detection measures in order to either avoid the identified potential deviations or at least detect them during development,<\/li><li>identify actions that have either been verifiably and effectively completed or are guaranteed to be implemented through other safeguards within the company, but exclude them from further tracking,<\/li><li>assign responsible parties and target dates for all other actions, agree on the actions with these individuals, and track progress,<\/li><li>evaluate the actions to determine how well they can prevent or detect the deviations to which they are assigned,<\/li><li>derive further risk-reduction actions at the root cause level for the failures based on the triad of severity, occurrence, and detection,<\/li><li>at any time, in accordance with specified reporting requirements, and at the end of the process, results are expected to be reported in terms of identified residual risks, open and pending actions, and the maturity level of the FMEA.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46168f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46168f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u00a0<\/p><p>In my view, this long list of activities can only receive the necessary support if<\/p><ul><li>there is a clear commitment\u2014for example, from customers or the company\u2019s own development process\u2014and clear guidelines for implementation,<\/li><li>this long list of activities is supported by qualified guidance (-&gt; FMEA moderation),<\/li><li>if management wants to see the results and uses them to make decisions,<\/li><li>if the participants see the FMEA as supporting their work rather than hindering it.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-917c808 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"917c808\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>All these conditions are coming under pressure to achieve better development performance in ever-shorter time frames and, if possible, with fewer staff.<\/p><p>Conversely, the available tools and methods are evolving rapidly, which supports this acceleration or opens up alternatives for reaching goals more quickly.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ed597cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"ed597cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/unternehmensberatung-jarosch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Aladin-schreibt-FMEA-mit-AI-Unterstuetzung.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-3133\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unternehmensberatung-jarosch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Aladin-schreibt-FMEA-mit-AI-Unterstuetzung.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/unternehmensberatung-jarosch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Aladin-schreibt-FMEA-mit-AI-Unterstuetzung-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unternehmensberatung-jarosch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Aladin-schreibt-FMEA-mit-AI-Unterstuetzung-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a110b1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7a110b1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The use of artificial intelligence\u2014more specifically, generative AI\u2014combined with the ability to influence the quantity and quality of the data and rules to be applied in the FMEA, now offers support for many of the tasks mentioned above.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd03a5c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fd03a5c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>However, a clear distinction must be made between content that can be derived from existing information, data, and instructions, and content that arises only through creative work during the development process and has no precedent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c9331c5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c9331c5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>For the former, AI can help; for the latter, AI is overwhelmed and can perhaps serve as a source of ideas based on analogies. Decisions are and will remain, for the time being, the domain of the developers\u2014no matter how many \u201cdecision-capable\u201d agents may exist for other issues.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-25372e1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"25372e1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>System Comparison<\/strong><\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-040d26b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"040d26b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the expert meeting, AI support was presented in three different tools<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> In this blog post I will describe the systems in their abilities without telling names and companies.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d5ab98 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d5ab98\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>A conventional FMEA tool that enables access to publicly available, commercially standard Large Language Models (LLMs), mentioning neighboring node elements in the prompt<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[2]<\/a> in keyword form and generating suggestions for FMEA content through simple queries drawn from the LLMs\u2019 world knowledge.<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><em><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[2]<\/a> Promt = instruction tot he gernaritv AI as a text. According to expert recommendation the prompt shall have 3 topics: 1) the role of the AI for finding answers, e.g. expert for FMEA methods acc to xyz, 2) the task that shall be done, in best way as a step by step approach similar to the procedure you would use yourself, 3) the precise form of export, e.g. as a text answer or as a file for given type and format.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb256cb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fb256cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>An FMEA tool that, for any node element in the FMEA, sends a locally specific prompt\u2014along with information about the adjacent node elements\u2014to a selectable LLM in addition to manual input; it then processes the feedback into a list of suggestions for the next entries and embeds the selection directly into the FMEA. The feedback is based on external world knowledge and kept brief.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12ca9ed elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"12ca9ed\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>An FMEA tool that currently features a heavily table-based user interface also allows users to make manual entries or manually modify existing entries. Unlike the other two tools, however, this one is designed to create a project-specific context in which \u201call\u201d available planning results, requests, requirements and specifications, system analyses, previous FMEAs, etc., have been collected and pre-processed.<br \/><br \/>Similar to the second system, suggestions for additional entries can be generated for the scope of analysis, structure, functions, failures, and corrective actions based on the specified context.
